The East Hollywood Neighborhood Council and the East Hollywood Arts and Culture Committee announce the fourth annual ArtCycle, a community event designed to celebrate the arts, bicycling, public space, and sustainable living in the heart of Los Angeles.

ArtCycle is a street fair with a decidedly do-it-yourself artistic twist. Everything from the planning to setting up to holding the event is done with grass roots participation by denizens of East Hollywood, one of the most diverse and eclectic neighborhoods in all of Los Angeles. Activities such as “stamping parties” to create handmade fliers to publicize ArtCycle to mass-participation street art projects on the day of the event all help to bring together the many elements of a vibrant community.

The previous three ArtCycle events were enormously successful, according to Jennifer Moran, producer of ArtCycle and chair of the East Hollywood Neighborhood Council Arts and Culture Committee, the body responsible for planning and presenting ArtCycle.

In 2009, thousands of people flocked to the East Hollywood Bicycle District at the intersection of Heliotrope Ave. and Melrose Ave. to view art and meet artists, tour local galleries, create their own art, watch live music, dance, eat, and generally enjoy a bit of car-free street goodness. In 2010, ArtCycle was moved to Santa Monica Blvd. to spotlight the need for more parks and public space in this community of nearly 60,000 residents. The second and third ArtCycle in 2010 and 2011 offered much more in the way of artists showing their creations, more live bands and DJs, food trucks, performance art, bike rides to visit local galleries and to discover public art, and lots of happy people on bicycles.

ArtCycle in 2012 has moved to the intersection of Madison Ave. and Santa Monica Blvd. around the historic Carnegie Cahuenga Library and returns to focus on the community with a variety of artists, bands and DJs for all tastes, a variety of bicycle tours to local art galleries and architectural landmarks, and more opportunities for people to express their own creativity. This year’s event feature collaborative street art projects, food trucks and other vendors, and a full day of DJs and live music and is Metro accessible via the Vermont/Santa Monica Red Line station and plenty of Metro bus routes. ArtCycle also offers bike valet parking for people who ride to the event.
